Morning walk with Mount Etna

Every morning, way before the sun rises, Antonello and I take walks through the many hidden and untraveled streets in our area. Well, this morning we were greeted with a site. It's been so cloudy near Etna that we haven't been able to see her very well. Obviously, my picture didn't capture the moment, but it was beautiful. For days we have been sweeping black soot off our terraces and balconies as Mount Etna has been very active these past few days. It's common dialogue between ladies of the town to exchange the woes of sweeping...

But, thanks to her our soil is so rich and full of nutrients!

I would definitely go crazy if I had to deal with black soot day in/day out. Back in Hawaii, I lived in an area where the dirt was very fine and red. Every time the winds blew, my home would be veiled with a reddish brown powder which inevitably left permanent stains on everything. An idea -- someone should come up with the idea of an italian black dirt tshirt. An entrepreneur took this tshirt idea and made a fortune with the Hawaii Red Dirt shirt! lol

I agree with Julie you have such breathtaking scenery where you live. I would also like to comment on your blog - I thoroughly enjoy it, in particular maybe because my husband is from Sicily and we are hoping to retire within the next few years to prov. Agrigento. I also find your blog very positive -many expats (not just in Italy) quickly comment on the downfalls of where theyt are, yes that's normal, but you are so positive it gives me inspiration - continue as you are as I thoroughly enjoy reading your blog.

Thank you very much for your beautiful comment! I look at everything around me as a gift, and I am blessed to have someone so special to share it with...

Do you know I still have yet to make it over to Agrigento, but I know it's amazing... When you make it over, let me know! Soon, you too will be living the Sicilian Simplicity... ;)
